Deadliest Catch Season 4 Episode 4 “Unsafe and Unsound”

April 30th, 2008

King Crab CrabbingCapt. Phil and the Cornelia Marie continue to struggle to find the crab as time dwindles down.  He tries looking towards the other captains for help on the radio but nothing but silence is heard as the other captains aren’t to eager to be giving up their honey hole.

The Northwestern continues to do well seeing good numbers of crab in every string.  Capt. Sig continues to work his men hard as Edgar and himself have a little fun seeing who can continue on without sleeping.  Capt. Keith on board the Wizard is also pushing his crew very hard working on a string of pots called the “Mankiller”  Working with a man down, they are forced to haul over 50 pots in a 12 hour span.  His crew is getting pretty well banged up but the captain finds a way to keep them together.Jonathan Hillstrand Time Bandit

Over on the Time Bandit it is revealed their skipper, Jonathan had an eye opening experience just three weeks before when he slipped going onto the boat at the dock and plunged into the 38 degree water.  Now he gets another wake up call when his son, Scott Hillstrand decides to leave the boat feeling it just isn’t something he wants to spend his life doing.  After a few weeks of finally spending some real quality time alongside his son, Jonathan realizes that this is coming to an end.  More importantly him, this may also foretell  the eventual end of the Hillstrand family tradition aboard the boats.

Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm Video Game Gameplay Footage Released

April 26th, 2008

Here are a few short videos showing some of the gameplay in the upcoming video game, Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm. The title is expected to be released sometime in mid May. From the looks of the videos, the overall graphics don’t look bad. The majority of the game centers on the simulation aspect as players will be able to choose from one of the boats from the series or can use their own custom vessel. They can also choose crew members and decide whether to go for the experienced (and well paid) crew or mix in some greenhorns. Every decision impacts the game. Even the migration pattern of the crabs have been recreated in the game to make it as every bit lifelike as possible.

Capt. Phil’s Health Problems Confirmed in Interview

April 24th, 2008

The last episode of Deadliest Catch showed Capt. Phil fall asleep in the wheelhouse of the Cornelia Marie. It also showed him ingesting a steady diet of Red Bulls and cigarettes, which added to the stress already involved in the job can’t be good for the human body. His problems have recently been made public being published on the Cornelia Marie’s website.

As the video below will shed some light into upcoming episodes of the show, I won’t go into detail, but will leave it up to you whether or not to watch the interview below. Here’s the excerpt that was posted regarding Capt. Phil….

It appears the word is out… Captain Phil faced a fatal situation this season, but we don’t know when or what episode it will show up on. In fact, he’s still not fully recovered as of today. But, let Captain Phil tell you in his own words what really happened… after the jump is a video from a WGN TV9 interview he did in Chicago with Keith Colburn.

Deadliest Catch Episodes “A Numbers Game”

April 24th, 2008

Another episode of Deadliest Catch and we saw a glimpse into the family history of the Hillstrand family aboard the Time Bandit. Whether it’s all about genetics or the lucky crab jog it certainly has been paying off as the Time Bandit was the first to return back to port to unload it’s catch. The Early Dawn finally started her season as well after finishing up fishing for brown crabs. A prospect string deployed by them ended up coming back with very disappointing numbers. We also saw Capt. Keith on the Wizard lose his temper when he saw what appeared to have been another boat pulling his pots and circling over his string.

Capt. Phil fell asleep briefly at the wheel as his usual diet of caffeine and nicotine is no longer working for him after several long days in the wheelhouse. I guess we should have seen this coming when he wished his son a “Happy Birthday” a day before his actual birthday.

Last but not least we saw Sig’s patience wear thin as mechanical difficulties first set them back a bit while Edgar made a repair to a crane. He then lost it when he witnessed deck hand Matt eating a cheese sandwich at the sorting table. All in all just another day aboard the Northwestern.

Investigation Continues into Alaska Ranger Sinking

April 22nd, 2008

The 203-foot Alaska Ranger, a catcher-processor, was on its way from Dutch Harbor to fish for mackerel in the Bering Sea when it first began taking water around 3 a.m. The cause hasn’t been found. A Marine Board of Investigation is holding a series of hearings into the circumstances surrounding the sinking about 120 miles west of Dutch Harbor. Five of the men on board including the captain lost their lives. Two Coast Guard helicopters and a fishing vessel managed to rescue 42 others despite nightmare conditions. The Coast Guard crews risked their own lives in high winds and roiling seas.

Deadliest Catch Season 4 Gets Underway

April 16th, 2008

After a long wait, we finally got treated to the newest season of Deadliest Catch. The show started out on a bit of an ominous tone, which may very well be a sign of things to come this season. The Northwestern has problem with a propeller shaft, the Wizard suffered damage en route to Dutch Harbor when they were hit by a rogue wave, the radio goes silent before the blessing is read in it’s entirety, and last but not least…

The crew of the Wizard can’t find the captain’s Cup O Noodles and he’s not happy about breaking superstition…
