Cornelia Marie Captain Phil Harris Improves Dramatically
Feb 7th, 2010 by admin
Capt. Phil was talking to friends and family today; showing his greatest progress since he suffered a massive stroke one week ago. It’s been a long and difficult week for friends and family as Phil was medivaced from St. Paul Island and under went surgery. His doctors are said to be extremely impressed with his rapid progress – which has included breathing on his own, chatting up a storm and regaining feeling in the left side of his body.
Capt. Phil’s sons Josh and Jake have been at this hospital and continue to stay by their father’s side. Some Bering Sea fishermen have also come by to pay Phil a visit.
Meanwhile, the F/V Cornelia Marie has been back fishing for Opilios. The season has really just begun, so there’s much more fishing to do.
Great folks from around the world have sent their messages of encouragement and get-well soon greetings – for this, we will always be thankful. Many cards have been sent and they will all get to Phil as he recovers..

Truly I am so happy for all of you and all of us. Looking forward to seeing you soon on or off deck doesn’t matter to us you are nice eye candy for us gals at the coffee shop.

I kept checking my e-mail everday after work hoping for some
good news. Finally, I read today how well Phil is doing and I
am sure not only fans but those young men at his side are
feeling so blessed to have Phil doing better.
I encourage Phil to try to adhere to everything that the Doctors are telling him……sometimes we have to change
to make life better. I wish you a speedy recovery & a long life !!
Phil, good to hear that your doing better. You’ve had a close call. It’s not always the Bering Sea you have to look out for. It’s time to get your priorities straight.
Dude, you have got to start taking better care of yourself. No more smoking. More rest and sleep and
a much better diet. After all your not that old, but your making yourself older the way your going. You should be able to fish till your truely “old”. I hope your son’s take this to heart also and let this be a good example of what not to do. God bless you and be with you.
great news for all! am very happy to hear of the improvement, give it hell Phil, keep fighting.
I, too, have been checking my e-mails every day on word of Phil. Thanks, Jake and Josh, for letting us know how things are going. Your dad is so proud of both of you, we can all tell how much he loves you. It’s GREAT to hear that you’re doing better, and showing so much improvement! PLEASE, take better care of yourself because we want to see lots more Deadliest Catch, with you in it!!!! The things you say always makes me laugh!! Your boys need you to keep them in line, so get better quick. You’re still in our prayers.
Captain Phil was so hurt to find out you were ill. I so wish you a full recovery and quick reurn to were you need be, back at Captain on the Cornelia Marie. We will add you to our prayers at home and will mention you at prayer meeting wednesday night. We do so enjoy you as Captain of Captains. ditto big mike !!!!
I could not have said it better myself .I had written earlier I was hospitalized last year and was told I had a year to live if I did not quit smoking. I decided I wanted to live and I loved my family so much that I wanted to stop the torture I was putting them through watching the abuse I was putting myself through.I want a cigerette everyday and I mean everyday but I want to live more then I want that cigerette. I am tough and Phil I know your tougher than I ever thought of being so I challenge you to ouit smoking and get healthy are you seriously going to let a cigerette come between you and your boys? you can do it be proud that you have done it and we all applaud you for it. WE love you guys on all the different boats. I worry how Jake andreson is doing as well.
in our prayers
Jeff and Joyce

It’s great to here that you’re getting better Cap! I know you’re too hard nosed (STUBBORN) to stay on your back. TV would not be the same with out you and the boys on it. Everytime grill crab legs i’ll think of you and the crew. keep those camera men on deck huh! from Detroit with love.
Give’em hell Captin Phil……..you’ll be up and running before too long. This good ol’ southern boy in Georgia are praying for a speedy recovery for you and the best wishes for your boys and family.

Dear Sons of the Sea
The loss of a father is an immeasurable sorrow. I lost mine very young and know its reach, its breadth. Your daddy was a singular man, beloved by so many for his own merit and the love he had for you, family and crew. His love of the sea is mirrored in your own. I know he is proud of you all. He will be ever over your shoulder, always there, as he always has been.
He is legend now.
And you men, his legacy. Live long and safe and well.
With much love from Coleen Shin and Family, Dallas Tx
Rest in peace Phil.We are going to miss you dearly. With love.
