Cornelia Marie Captain Phil Harris Suffers Stroke
Feb 1st, 2010 by admin
Captain Phil Harris suffered a stroke at St. Paul Island in Alaska while the boat was off loading it’s catch. He was found on the floor of his stateroom by the boats engineer, Steve. He was first taken to the same clinic in St. Paul where he was treated for the blood clot just two short years ago. He was then flown to Anchorage to be better treated. Both of his sons are now by his side. Originally Josh had remained on the boat while a relief skipper is being flown out. An old friend of the family, Derek Ray flew to St. Paul to take on the role of relief skipper for the rest of the Opilio season. While at Anchorage Capt. Phil underwent surgery with both of his sons, Josh and Jake at his side. However, it may be some time before we know anything substantial about Phil’s condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with Phil and his family…
Update 2/1/10 Josh and Jake Harris have released the following statement…
“Josh and Jake Harris thank everyone for their heartfelt thought and prayers. The ‘Deadliest Catch’ community has always been more like family than just fans, and Discovery Channel joins the Harris boys in thanking everyone for their wishes of support. Captain Phil is resting comfortably and is in the care of excellent doctors and nurses. We will update everyone on his progress”

Captain Phil and family, I was so sad to hear about what happened. Our prayers are with you.
A thank you to all Phil’s friends and fans who have been txting, emailing, posting on Phil’s facebook, and stopping by our forum and chat at captainphilharis.com.

I am saddened to hear that Phil Harris has suffered a stroke. The last several yrs have been tough for him. My heart goes out to him and both of his sons, Josh and Jake. Along with many others I have watched deadliest catch and immediately became a number 1 fan of Phil Harris and the Cornelia Marie. Don’t ever give up on hope, keep a positive outlook and pray. Until my husband became sick, I didn’t believe much in prayer, but I will say that as my husband became sicker and sicker, I found great peace in prayer. Remember that today there are many great advances in the medical field. That technology helped keep my husband alive for another 12 yrs that we wouldn’t of had with this great man. As a nurse, I understand the seriousness of Phil’s health issues. Keep tough, keep positive! May God bless you.
Phi. Jake, Josh and the Cornelia Marie crew and family. I am very sorry to hear that Phil suffered a stroke. My mother suffered a stroke some years ago so I can relate to what you are all going through at this time. I pray that Phil makes a complete recovery and returns to the Cornelia Marie. Phil, his sons and his crew are one of the reasons that I watch Deadliest Catch. My prayers will be with you all.
I started watching Deadliest Catch 2 years ago. I immediatly fell in love with Captain Phil and his boys. They are all in my prayers. To Captain Phil, if I could I would be at your bedside to take care of you while you heal. I wish you, your family and crew the best.
Please Captain Phil get well soon and come back to us. You are loved by many people. Lots of Love from Florida…Melanie
Get well Phill, all of our prayers are with you, and your family.
Prayers are with you and your family. The show doesn’t matter, your health does!
To the Harris Family: If any human could kick a stroke’s ass, it’s Capt. Phil. Stay strong Phil, you can beat this Buddy. We’re pullin’ for ya. Deanna & Stacy
May God bless Phil in his time of need and heal all that is hurt. Miracles happen if asked for, believe in them.
Wishing Phil a quick recovery, his presence until then will be missed.
To the Harris clan: Phil, Josh & Jake, My thoughts & prayers go out to you all. Phil , you da man! hang in there! Josh & Jake: be strong & know you have the world pulling for your dad!
Thoughts, prayers and well wishes for a speedy recovery Phil~ Be strong Josh and Jake! You’re dad is one heck of a tough guy and loves you guys very much!
Phil is strong and he has alot of reserves. He can pull through this and become healthier over the long haul.
It will be very hard but he will have to give up coffee and cigs.
Many people have survived strokes but they change their life drastically.
Phil seemed like such a regular guy on the show. You saw the fear, the frustration, the stress.
The recovery will be slow but natural food and vitamins etc. can make a big jump and he can come back.
We don’t have too many fellows to admire out here, Phil.
Phil, your a good man with a passionate family.
I can relate to what you are going through having been their myself. It is hard to step back from something that one loves so much as commercial fishing – in saying that, yes – we can survive.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
In Him we trust.
God bless.
Capt. Phil, Jake and Josh,
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. I will light a candle in church this weekend. You’ve had a tough go these past couple of years, this to be overcome.
Keep the faith,
Patty
Phil, our prayers go out to you and your family. we’re wishing you a speedy recovery. Get well soon! Best wishes to you always!
Get will soon Phil.
Phil and family you are all in my prayers!!! Get well soon Phil.
May the loving hands of God heal you and bring you back to what you love. I pray that God lift you and your family up and give you the strength you’ll need to pull through this.
Two scriptures that are food for my soul
1. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
2. “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:30-31)
Draw strength from The Lord!
C’mon, Capt. Phil, we’re pulling for you. Get well soon!!!!
I was so sad having heard that Captain Phil had a stroke.
He is one of the people who made the show, Deadliest Catch, and I, for one of many, will miss the big man.
If you read this Capt. Phil, God Bless You and we hope you pull through this mess. We will all miss you very much.

Our family has been watching Deadliest Catch since the first episode of “Dirty Jobs” . Phil and his sons will be in our prayers. Deadliest Catch is one of our favorite programs and watching week after week we feel like we know all of you. We watched how much the sons were impacted by their dads blood clot and the stages of fear and hope they went through. As a Christ follower, I pray for Phil to return to the life he loves, the sea, and for his son’s the strength to go through this illness and recovery. A job is a job, no matter how much we love it, but a families love can never be replaced. My prayer is that you know God is always with you, no matter what, no matter where, as long as you believe that He is who he claimed to be, the Son of God. God bless Phil, his son’s’ and his crew!!
If strength in numbers proves to be true, you surely have much strength after reading the well wishes from fans. My friends laugh at me when we watch the show as I speak of the captains & crews as they are close friends. You all are. I pray for the Lord to give you each strength and comfort in your time of need. Treasure every moment, share your thoughts and express your love to each other. God be with you.

Now he can catch as many crabs and eat as much as he wants.
RIP Capt Phil
Phil the “BIGDOG” of Crab Fisherman was not only a GREAT Skipper but a GREAT man! There will be a huge void in not only Jake & Josh’s life, but in everyone’s life that got to know him & his crew by watching the show. If there was such a thing as a “FISHERMAN HALL OF FAME” he was & always will be an inductee that can’t be rivaled! Were gonna miss ya Phil!!! Thought’s & Prayer’s for the “CORNELIA MARIA” Family & the whole “Crabin” Community.
TO ALL FAMILY AN FRIENDS,
I’M SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE PASSING OF CAPTAIN PHIL. HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST ON THE SHOW. MY PRAYS ARE WITH YOU ALL,

Wow, besides his family and close friends, he will be missed. What a cool dude to whatch on TV. Deadliest Catch is one of the only reality shows I will watch, all others are pointless.

To Jake and Josh,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your Dad was an incredible man. Deadliest Catch is my favorite show and it wont be the same without your Dad. I can only imagine your pain. Please know that you will be in many prayers. Im sure your Dad will be watching over his fellow “Crabbers”.
Rest in Peace our friend Phil,
DeAnn
My heart goes out to Jake and Josh, their father was an extraordinary man. One who took life by the horns and lived it on HIS TERMS.
I hope his sons, his crew and all of the fleet can celebrate his life without heavy hearts. Phil wouldn’t want that.
Rest in Peace Phil, you will be greatly missed.
dear Josh and Jake, we are saddened by the death of your Dad. We have been avid fans of yours and he will be greatly missed. Please accept our condolances. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to the rest of the crew on the Cornelia Marie as well.
