Deadliest Catch Film Crew Prepares for Season 6

In preparation for the next season of Deadliest Catch (Yes, there is a light ahead in the tunnel), four memebers of the production and film team recently received training from the U.S. Coast Guard. The training was designed to hopefully keep the crew safe while working in the harsh Bering sea environment. Everyone see first hand just how dangerous the job is for the crab fisherman, but what about the less experienced crew? Trying to avoid dangers lurking everywhere while looking through a viewfinder is no easy task, it’s easy to get distracted and loose sight of your surroundings while trying to capture that perfect footage.

Among the production team members were both producers, Josh Silberman and Tim Beers who this season will be on board Coast Guard rescue helicopters capturing footage from actual rescues. Josh knows first hand how dangerous shooting on the Bering Sea can be having been knocked unconscios and as well as twice falling down stairs on the Cornelia Marie while at sea. Another Deadliest Catch team member, Zac McFarlane, had his ear almost completely severed after being thrown across a room in rough weather and having it sliced on a metal box.

I love the show – it’s the best tv there is! Bring them back!!!
It’s interesting, exciting and the guys are genuine people
doing dangerous work battling intolerable conditions.
It’s amazing how many of my friends are watching this
show. I thought it was for men when I began watching – but
it’s amazing the number of women that are hooked by the excitement and the fact that you never know what’s going to
happen.

I imagine the Captains will be happy about this training, as well as the crews who are usually put in the position of babysitter for the camera crews which puts more pressure on those who are already doing the most dangerous job in the world.

This is a terrific show. Because its real. No reality actors, no hair extensions, no fans blowing fake wind, no cushy home to relax in after the cameras stop rolling, no celebrities, no stupid romance plots. Kind of like real life and I love it. Looking forward to the next season.

The new season will probably start in March of next year after the Opillio Crab Season finishes and Discovery completes the editing. We never see the footage until after the season is basically over and can be edited for content. I would just like to say that the Northwestern, Time Bandit, Cornelia Marie, Maverick, Wizard, and the Farwest Leader crews, and all the other f/v: You are all in my prayers. Generally, if you follow the patter of the last five seasons, the new season will come out a month or so after the crabbing seasons end. I’m guessing that they’re still in the middle of red king crab right now and then opilio in jan so the new season should be out roughly april 2010.

Don’t work for discovery though, so I can’t be sure. Haha.

I personally met Keith in Sarasota Fl a few years back. He was there representing The Catch. He was so kind. I even got to put on a Yellow Rain coat and pretend I was on the boat. It was great.

Discovery came with a winner with deadliest catch, and having watched the last series that almost ened up in having the wizard loose her deck crew tying the tarp, (or attempting to), and watching the coasties pluck the crew of the cod boat that got slammed hard on the rocks off the island after aborting the pick up off the boat itself, I can’t wait for the 2009 king crab season to be aired

I crabbed for a season in Florida so I can fully appreciate the work and danger these guys endure. Here it’s warm most of the year so it’s nothing like the things these guys go through. I’ve watched every episode of all the seasons I have been able to catch. I can’t wait to see the new season. Discovery! Don’t ever cancel this show! To all you guys crabbing up there you all have our admiration and respect. keep up the good work and thanks for the gripping series!

I love the show and seen every boat ever on the show and some times in ketchikan you be hearing the bell ring and theres a skipper or crrew member but i dont have the guts to crab but salmon just fine.season 6 well start sometime in april on alaska week.

Well said, Stephen. It is very gripping and it’s hard not to become “attached” to the crews. This show is fascinating and I had never seen it before this summer, now I am hooked! (Pardon the pun..) Deadliest Catch is without a doubt, one of the best shows going. One thing though…I really thought that Mike Rowe did an amazing job as the show’s narrator. He wasn’t on the last few captin’s recap shows. Will Mike be coming back for season 6??? I think his witty comments have added to the success for many years.

I tried Lobstemen too and its a bore compared to Deadliest Catch. My husband and I are impatiently waiting for season 6. We have this show set on the highest priority on our DVR. We are getting by on reruns but its not feeding the craving enough, we’re really missing the guys. My fave is Sig, he’s such an ass sometimes and I love it! The wait seems to be taking forever. Drumming my fingers in anticipation…………..

The show is an eye opener on just how dangerous crabbing is, up in Alaska. I love the show, so much My brother and I will be putting a video together on you tube(www.youtube.com/vinnypage) in tribute to everyone involved in the the making of the series, fishermen,film crew, etc. It is still in production “Men of Legends” which is also the theme song.
I placed the lyrics below, I hope that was ok. We feel the crew, families and the fishermen deserve a tribute song just for them.
So we wrote one.

I’m another woman hooked on Deadliest Catch. I only started watching it a couple of weeks ago, but I HAD to get all the DVDs to catch up on what I missed previously. It is addictive and awesome viewing, that’s for sure, and those guys are all my heroes for doing what they do. Stay safe, boys!

Since opie season begins in January, following king crab season that ends in December, I can only assume that season 6 for 2010, will air around April of 2010.
The show is addictive. Phil wonders why women would watch the show…because we love real people…real men.
One boat that stands out for me is the Time Bandit and the Brothers. I have yet to see brothers that are so respectful and loving with each other. The scene of them celebrating their father’s burial spot on the mountain when their boat was coming in to dock brought tears.
I also agree with the person who asked where is Mike Rowe? Mike is a great commentator. He was great in the bar after the catch.
Discovery Channel, you better keep the show or there will be an uprising for sure.

I’m a woman who loves the Deadliest Catch! Greatest thing I’ve ever seen on TV, bar none! The guys are real men with real muscle and real hearts, not flimsy plastic phonies. Am I ever relieved to find the good ol’ American work ethic alive and well on the Bering Sea — I’m sick and tired of people who think the planet owes them a living, just because they’re walking on its face! And Captain Phil, women love the Deadliest Catch because they are all about relationships and struggling together for goals, and that’s what your show is all about. Don’t ever go off the air.

This show is definitely the best one on Discovery! My husband and I are really looking forward to season 6. The crews on the boats have more stamina, courage, guts and grit than anyone else! It’s refreshing to see them at their best and worst! I really hope that you’re feeling better Phil, but you do need to get a handle on your son’s spending habits! I think that Jake has alot more heart than his younger brother, Josh. Josh is very disrespectful to you, his brother, the crew and then turns to the camera and laughs about it. I don’t think the crew would object if you hauled him over your knee and gave him what he deserves!! Tough Love is hard to give. Sig and Edgar on the Northwestern are definitely the best looking out of the whole bunch! The biting off of the head of the herring is a bit of a turn off for me but my husband loves it! We both think that Monty needs to stay home and keep off the boat. He takes the prize for the worst person on the show! The way he treats other people is completely disgusting! Keith doesn’t seem to notice or care how badly his brother needs an attitude adjustment! The show keeps us on the edge of our seats at times and has more heart and honesty than any other! The severity of the working conditions and the raw edge drama this show gives us every season is what keeps us coming back for more! We’re looking forward to season 6 and pray that you are all catching your quotas and staying safe! Even you too Monty!

What is it with D Catch & us women?
I seem to be totally obsessed with watching reruns daily & am desperate to the ‘09 King Crab to air. I’s bad enough us in the UK having to wait longer than the US & WHEN DO WE GET ‘AFTER THE CATCH???’ Come on discovery channel & let us have all of it!…Have to agree with Felicia about Keith and his crew, ‘mouse’ has to be the least appropriate nik name ever given!! Bet rest of the Deckhands wish he was a mouse lol…Would love to see the Maverick back on the show, they really do make me laugh… But got to say I cant choose between Sig and Andy for the most adorably marriageable bloke – just dont let my hubby know that

the deadlest catch is one of two of discoverys main shows deadlest catch and mythbusters i cant belive how long it being i am waiting for the rest of the 5th season and the new 6 th season
i will have to be truithful and say if either of those shows fail to air the next season it a rip off for the people
the shows got tons of loyal viewers and a following that would rival south park of the simpsons so dont be stupid just get ur finger out and dont make empty promisses to the fans

I’m another female that watches the show. I would enjoy seeing a few more glimpes of what goes on below deck. Who does the cooking and what do they eat, sleeping areas, pantry and storage areas, etc. What does the rest of the boat look like below deck? One question I have never found an answer to: Do they eat any of the big crab they catch?

how can u not beleive phil is gone? he chain smokes all day, along with cramming his gut with shitloads of red bull, while sitting down for countless hours at a time. i could see it coming a mile away.! RIP phil
