Deadliest Catch Season Finale Shipwrecked
Jul 29th, 2009 by admin
As the end of Oplio season draws to a close the entire fleet is being pummeled by a fierce Artic storm. With more crab left to catch to fulfill their quota, Captain Keith has the crew on the Wizard playing a game of cat and mouse with the weather. The crew scrambles out on deck to quickly dump a single pot and prepare the next and then just as quickly clears the deck to seek shelter. Although the work has never been harder the payoff has been full pots averaging 600 keepers. As the crew continues to grind they pull their last pot and clear the deck just in time as right afterwards a massive wave crashes over the rail which would have been disasterous if the men were still on deck.
With their tanks stuffed and a full stack of gear on their deck the Northwestern has wisely decided to ride out the storm behind St Paul in order to get out of the brunt of the wind. With their pots on board and tanks filled the boat is riding dangerously low in the water and Captain Sig knows his boat and crew would be in serious trouble had they attempted to ride out the storm in the open sea. However, there is always a bit of uncertainty with the Bering Sea and soon the voice of another Captain just yards away has gotten hit with a rogue wave which rolled the boat on it’s side putting the starboard window in the wheelhouse underwater. After a few tense moments the Captain then comes back on the radio with the news that he was able to right the boat, just avoiding disaster.
As the fierce storm continues it sets its eyes on another victim. This time the Icy Mist has lost power and is being tossed against a rocky shoreline. The Coast Guard dispatches a Jayhawk rescue helicopter to the scene but the fierce winds and the position of the boat up against a rocky cliff make any rescue attempt almost impossible. Not wanting to give up on the crew, the Coast Guard team gives a valiant effort but has to abort their attempt. The four man crew of the boat managed to escape off the stern of the boat by climbing onto a crab pot and then several large rocks before making it to shore. Once they make it safely they are able to reach an area where the Jayhawk’s crew can deploy their basket and successfully rescue the crew.

Good Season!!One Question with all the trouble we see the crews having, after passing coast guard inspections, and having the proper ER suits how can the producers come up w/that lame movie?Keep up the GOOD work on the deadliest catch.
What will we watch until the next season? When will that be? You are all very brave or just love danger on the edge. Love it. Patty
LOVE this show! It’s the only one that my husband and I both like to watch. The new shows that seem to be “copycats” of Deadliest Catch can’t touch it. Can’t wait for a new season with the crews.
I hope the next season they stretch into more shows.I think Andy is a power freak and needs his ass kicked, I`ll do it if his mates are scared of him.Phil rules and I like the new boat as well.
I love the show it is so addicting!! I really like Phil Harris and his boys, Sig also, And Andy & Johnathon. Its a great show, just can;t believe how hard those guys work.
My husband and I love this show…its the one time we sit together and watch the same station. No one bothers us during the show..Cant wait for the new season. Love Phil..so glad to see he is doing better..You guys rock!
Have 12 years living aboard on west coast and SE AK. Your camera crews are doing some fantasitic work getting the ‘not on-board shots’ I would really enjoy a episode on the filming adventures in making your series.
Enjoyed the dorado vacation shots off Loreto. Super area to fish, the sea mounts off La Paz are good as well.
Fair winds and seas.
i love the show try not to miss it every week phil n sig are spot on.
fantastic show!!!
I agree with Mike would love to see the filming also& how do they get the shots of the crews from the seas do they use a RIB if so must be a hairy ride for the camera crews, when do the guys cook & eat??
