SO many folks have been asking when the season will begins and I have even read on several other sites that Deadliest Catch was even being canceled. Just to set the story straight, season 6 of Deadliest Catch will be aired starting on April 13, 2010 on Discovery…

this seasons airing will be dishearting to all who watch. It was just announced that Capt Phil Harris has passed away roughly 1 hr ago. Seeing 2 seasons ago with him and his return then the wizard almost losing there crew this season the cornelia marie has lost her captain and airing the opie season will be difficult. Prayers and thoughts to all the boats and especially to Jake and Josh. It is now up to you boys to do right by your dad and run that boat with him. Get Murray back to help you out for while but go out there and have him looking down on you on how well he taught you both to be fisherman.

I have seen every episode of Deadliest Catch and admire the captains and their crew of brave men (and a few women). It makes me savor every bite of crab these fishermen risk their lives to provide.

I send my thoughts and prayers to the the family and friends of Cpt. Phil Harris. His tough love has made him successful, respected and admired. His boys will make him proud as they are like their father – A tough but tender-hearted wise Kodiak bear. God Bless the Cornelia Marie and all who sail upon her.

Captain Phil has always been my favorite. I got to see him up close and personal last May at the Vegas Supercross. He was sitting about 4 people over from my husband and I . He will be greatly missed and my condolences go out to his boys. Carry on your dads tradition of hauling big numbers.

Will Season 6 document this sad ending to Phil Harris’s life? If the season is just starting, can the editors film, edit and air by April…or do we watch a year behind…ie, 09 in 10 etc? Nothing will be the same without Phil. Strange to think a man who battled nature’s worst weather was ultimately cut down by cigarettes and red bull. I’m not trying to be a smart arse. But we all sort of dreaded seeing one of the reality TV cast sucked away by the sea…and yet Phil suffered a different fate. Worse, half of me anxiously awaits to see how the boys deal with this and the other half of me doesn’t think anyone should see it. My wish is that Josh and Jake take the best lessons from their father and recognize the Capt. Phil that will live on in them, on or off the sea.

@Chuck I believe they are starting opilio fishing now, I would think the filming is wrapped up on King Crab fishing. Hopefully Phil will be in this last season of King Crab to be aired in April.

I believe captain Phil Harris was one of the most genuine people I have ever crossed paths with. He knew the risks and the rewards and the difference between them. He loved his family and then his fishing in that order. The only time or times I saw his eyes really light up was when he was talking about his sons or his vessel. He was devoted to both to the very end. I am not going to re-hash how he took care of himself I am just going to say this…He took care .

I was shocked to hear about Capt Phil passing away. After my husband passed away suddenly in 2008, I didnt watch the show as often. My heart goes out to Josh and Jake but somehow seeing the caliber of the man that Capt Phil was his children will be just fine. Like Josh said to his father “you tought me everything I need to know about being a man”. That is what real men do with their children they teach them. If you are reading this Josh and Jake remember that his passing is only of the physical sense, your father will be with you forever in your hearts and he is with you every day in his spiritual being.
