Fishing Vessel: TIME BANDIT
Brothers Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand share the skippering duties on board their family-operated vessel, the Time Bandit. Designed by the Hillstrands’ father and custom-built by the brothers, the boat features luxuries unheard of on other crab boats, such as staterooms with queen-sized beds, a four-person sauna and a dishwasher.
Johnathan is the captain during king crab season. He runs a tight ship and is not afraid to speak his mind. When he’s not embracing the elements at sea, the Homer, Alaska, resident enjoys a zest for life on the edge that includes riding a Harley that is rigged to rocket to 120 mph at the touch of a button.
Andy Hillstrand is skipper during opilio season and also runs the business side. During the off-season, Andy spends time at his ranch in Indiana, where he engages in his other passion — training horses.
The youngest of the brothers, Deckhand Neal Hillstrand is responsible for prepping the boat at the start of each season and serves as the cook. Deckhand Nathan Vandecoevering also returns to fish on the Time Bandit. New to the boat this year is Deckhand Russ Newberry, who brings with him nearly 20 years of crabbing experience.

Hi Jonathan and Andy! My family and I are great fans and follow you boys and your crew thru both crab seasons. You and all the other crabbers who fish the Bering Sea are always included in our prayers. I know there has been talk of having to let a crew member go at the end of the season. We are hoping here that it will be Scotty Hillstrand. Hopefully you are watching the follow up clips and see how lazy Scott really is. The other crew members are frustrated. Scott goes around with a smirk on his face and considers himself safe from any rebuke. Jonathan, I know you love your son and always proud of him but I hope if your let anyone go from the current crew, it will be Scotty. Again, congratulations on a successull King and Opilio seasons!! We look forward to every new season aboard the F/V Time Bandit. Karen Prince, Sgt U.S.Army

Wishing Capt. John and the entire TB crew a safe 2009-2010 season. I hope the weather is good and your pots are full! Stay safe.
Can’t wait for the show in 2010.
Leeann in Pennsylvania
Watched your crew even from the beginning looked like you guys are Pittsburgh Steelers of Crab fishing tough blue collar all american. Thats why it may be time to consider in spite of ratings which could sky-rocket, an african ameican myself to board your vessel and have the world see some adverse conditions from my perspective. Not to worry I was a former Marine. Please contact me at ttc524@yahoo.com
Captain Johnathon,
I long lined out of Homer on the f/v carley renee . My name is Doug I live in Memphis but work in humbolt,ca. The skippers name was don. Do you know him? If so ask him about me and he will tell you some stories

Hey guys of the time bandit, hope ya’ll are doing fine. I am so sorry to hear about Captain Phil. I love your show, and the Time Bandit is my favorite. I think both you and Andy are very nice looking guys and love your attitudes. Jonathan , you, I think are so good looking. Are you married? There is something about you that my ex-husband didn’t like me watching anymore because I always had something to say about you. I think what would really made your ratings, is to let a women work one season and I think Im that women.. So if you ever need one, give me a call. I jealous of yall, were you live is so beautiful and I plan on taking a cruise there one day. If your ever in Texas shoot me an e-mail.
Johnathan,
I wanted to THANK YOU for coming back and taking one last photo with me while you were in Daytona for the Daytona 500. It meant the world to me and I will treasure this photo forever. I was in such shock that you saw me and made a special trip back for the photo, that I did not get a chance to tell you how sorry I am for your loss with Capt. Phil. We will all miss him terribly.
I LOVE the show and am one of your biggest fans. May you all have a safe season this year and just know that I am always sending prayers and safe waters for you all.
Enjoy that Harley of yours and may you have a Great and Prosperous Season!
I love that Time Bandit Jacket of yours… You wear it well!!! Please let us know if there is a site we can purchase any Deadliest Catch or Time Bandit gear.
Safe Crabbing,
Tina
I’ve enjoyed the show since it began and look forward to the 2010 season. I feared that changes in fising regulations in Alaska might mean the end of the program-I’m glad I was wrong! I’ve gotta let you all know that, out of respect for all you fellows go through, whenever we partake of an Alaskan king crab feast in our humble abode the feast is prefaced w/several shots of good whiskey and toasts of frothy beer to your boats and crew members continued prosperity and safety. Sadly, we knocked back several toasts to the memory of Capt. Phil Harris-hail his memory forever.
Finally, I must confess the Time Bandit crew is our favorite. I loved the book-words cannot express how much I can relate to the Hillstrand attitude and work ethic. If you’re ever in Spokane you’ve got a place to crank Slayer, imbibe various adult beverages, smoke ‘em if you’ve got ‘em and relax. And if the boat ever needs a pretty, tattooed registered nurse who can cook let me know! It would be awesome if all the time I spent on my grandfather’s boats lead to such adventure!
Keep your feet on the deck and your eyes on the prize-
Kaycee
Hi Guys
Like to guys from the Northwestern, the Time Bandit has a huge fan base in South Africa! We love your show and have only the utmost respect for what you do and endure! Is tehre any way that we can purchase some Time Bandit ware!
Blessings from our side of the big pond!
Have been a fan of time bandit and john from the get go. I live and work on a ranch. Have over 100 dogs we have rescued. We have many horses and cattle also. my boss and her ol man have 4 harleys, plus all our friends ride. yankee’s bar is just around corner from us. john would fit in here, with his sence of humor. I lived in Key West in my early 20’s. I cried when I moved home to Texas. It’s a beautiful state. Long story short, Is there by chance any way in hell to get a autographed photo of john on his iron horse? Always Steph
